The Himalayas were formed as a result of a collision between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.

  • The Tethys Ocean that separated the two plates was pushed upward during the continental drift. The movement of the Indian plate towards the Eurasian plate resulted in the upward movement of Tethys ocean bed.
  • The beds of the ocean elevated resulting in the formation of mountains.
  • It is located in the northeastern regions of India and spanning  Ladakh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Oak, chestnut, pine trees, etc., are some of the vegetation observed in the Himalayan regions.
  • Animals like Snow leopard, Red panda, Domestic yak, etc., are adapted in this region.
  • Climate influence, source of major rivers, hydroelectricity, tourism, etc. are some of the significance of the Himalayas.
