STEPS -
* Draw a line segement of length 8.5 and name it as AB.
*Add a line segement of 1cm to it.It will be BC.now AC together will be 9.5cm.
*draw the perpendicular bisector of AC by taking the compass and cutting an arc from point A and point C.Name the point of intersection of the arcs as P and the point where the bisector meets AC as Q.
*keeping compass at Qand taking radius = PQ draw a semicircle from A to C.
*now at point B make an angle of 90 degree or in other words it is a perpendicular.
*name the point where the perpendicular meets the semicircle as R.
*length of RB is the answer.
SO NOW DRAW A NUMBER LINE WITH POINTS MARKED AT 1 cm EACH.TAKING LENGTH OF RB MARK ON THE NUMBER LINE.IT IS THE CORRECT ANSWER.
