The atomic number (Z) of sulphur is 16.The electronic configuration of sulphur is 2,8,6. So,it needs two electrons in order to be stable.

Sulphur forms +2 anion. Now, it gets electronic configuration of Argon(Ag), which is nearest Nobel gas element of sulphur(S).
