By Pythagoras theoram
Hy^2=B^2+P^2
= 1^2+4^2
It means u have to take base as 1inch or 1unit and perpendicular as 4 unit so it will give root 17 on no line

by pythagoras theorem
hypotensue^{2} = base^{2} + perpendicular^{2}
√17 = 4² + 1²
⇒ Take 4 units on x axis and 1 unit on y axis. Join the open end of y axis with origin and measure the line so obtained with compass and cut an arc on x axis with the measurement taken from compass. The line obtained has the measure of √17 units
