PHYLUM - CHORDATA:-

Characteristic features:-

  • A notochord
  • A dorsal hollow nerve cord
  • Paired pharyngeal gill slits
  • Post anal tail
  • Closed circulatory system

Symmetry, body cavity, level of organization:-

→ These are bilaterally symmetrical, triploblastic, coelomate with organ-system level of organisation.

→ Phylum Chordata is divided into three subphyla like Urochordata or Tunicata, Cephalochordata and Vertebrata.

→ As we know that subphyla Urochordata and Cephalochordata are often referred to as protochordates.
