Reproduction is not a life process essential to the survival of one individual. An individual organism can live normally throughout it's lifespan without reproducing.
However if organisms do not reproduce ultimately all the organisms of that species will die and no new species will be produced.
Hence that species will be exctinct. So, it is necessary for the survival of the species but not necessarily the survival of an individual.
