Reproduction of Bryophytes -

  • Gemmae is green, multicellular asexual buds that develop in small receptacles on the thalli.
  • They get detached from the parent body and germinate to form new individuals.
  • In sexual reproduction, the male and female organs can be on same or different thalli.
  • The sporophyte formed is differentiated into foot, seta and capsule.
  • After meiosis, spores are produced within the capsule.
  • And then these spores develop to form living gametophytes.
