In the case of crocodile's scales can be tuberculated but in the case of snakes it can be modified. Scales of crocodile's are composed of ketatinized epidermis and may have osteoderms underneath it. Scales of snake mainly protect it , retains moisture and most importantly provides simple colouration patterns that help it in providing anti - predator displays.
