hi

Republic, form of government in which a state is ruled by representatives of the citizen body. Modern republics are founded on the idea that sovereignty rests with the people, though who is included and excluded from the category of the people has varied across history.

It was proclaimed a republic but it was really a one party dictatorship. The Republic of the Seven United Netherlands declared its independence from King Philip II of Spain on 26 July 1581 with the Act of Abjuration, and became the Batavian Republic in 1795. The Kingdom of Holland was formed on 5 June 1806.

The primary positions of power within a republic are not inherited, but are attained through democracy, oligarchy or autocracy. For instance, Article IV of the United States Constitution "guaranteed to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government".

hope it helps!!
