Repulsion is the sure test of magnet

It is, indeed. Repulsion is a very strong characteristic feature of magnetic forces. Although they're more commonly seen as attracting forces, there are a lot of other attractive forces like surface tension (although it is a contact phenomena as opposed to magnetism). Just to be sure that youre not mistaking some other material for a magnet due to similar attraction, it's better to look out for repulsions as it is not that common in daily natural forces.

Answer:

Repulsion is the sure test for magnetism because it takes place only between two like poles of a magnet whereas attraction takes place between two unlike poles of a magnet and also between a magnet and a magnetic material.

Explanation:

Similar poles of the magnets repel each other while the dissimilar poles attract each other.
