Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a system of membrane lined channels found in all eukaryotic cells except mature erythrocytes. Membranes of ER may bear ribosomes then ER is called granular or rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER). It is abundant in cells engaged in active secretion.
