EVALUATION

Let the distance of the university = x km

Now the time taken when Sheldon walks at a speed of 10 kmph

$\displaystyle\sf{ = \frac{x}{10} \: \: hour }$

Again the time taken when Sheldon walks at a speed of 20 kmph

$\displaystyle\sf{ = \frac{x}{20} \: \: hour }$

Now it is given that Walking at a speed of 10 kmph, Sheldon reaches his university 10 minutes late and when he walks at 20 kmph, he reaches 5 minutes early

Difference in time

= ( 10 + 5 ) minutes

= 15 minutes

$\displaystyle\sf{ = \frac{15}{60} \: \: hour }$

$\displaystyle\sf{ = \frac{1}{4} \: \: hour }$

So by the given condition

$\displaystyle\sf{ \frac{x}{10} - \frac{x}{20} = \frac{1}{4} }$
