  • The total resistance of a series circuit is equal to the sum of individual resistances.
  • Voltage applied to a series circuit is equal to the sum of the individual voltage drops.
  • The voltage drop across a resistor in a series circuit is directly proportional to the size of the resistor.

Short Note on Series Combination of Resistance

A Single or two aur more resistors are joined end to end so that the same current flows through each of them it is known as Series combination .

Derivation of Series Combination

According to Ohm's Law -

V = IR

V ₁ = IR ₁ _ (i)

V₂ = IR₂ _ (ii)

Total V = V₁ + V₂

Total R = IR = I (R₁ + R₂ + R₃)

R = R + R + R
