Step-by-step explanation:

Let

 \frac{4x + 1}{(x - 2)(x + 1)}  =  \frac{a}{(x - 2)}  +  \frac{b}{(x + 1)}

 =  >  \frac{4x + 1}{(x - 2)(x + 1)} =  \frac{a(x + 1) + b(x - 2)}{(x - 2)(x + 1)}

 =  > 4x + 1 = (a + b)x + (a - 2b)

On comparing, we get,

a + b = 4 \:  \: and \:  \: a - 2b  = 1

On solving these equation,

we get,

a = 3 \:  \: and \:  \: b = 1
