Resources, calamities and disasters are all meaningful only in relation to living beings because it is them who get affected. If there was no life on earth, no one would be harmed by the calamity, no one would be there to make use of the natural resources and disaster would have no effect on anyone.
But when a disaster or calamity occurs, it is the humans who get suffered the most, they might lose their houses, business, source of income, and sometimes even life. The natural resources are meaningful when used by us. Coal and diamond would just be mere objects if we wouldn't assign a value and role to them.
