Answers
Answer:-
Ans 1) Localised resources can be defined as the resources which are found in a local place or specific area. localised resources are resources are those which are unevenly distributed among the world and are only concentrated in some areas. gold, diamonds and silver are some examples.
Ans 2) Abiotic resources are usually obtained from the lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere. Examples of abiotic factors are water, air, soil, sunlight, and minerals. Biotic factors are living or once-living organisms in the ecosystem. These are obtained from the biosphere and are capable of reproduction.
Ans 3) Difference between Potential and actual resources
Actual Resources:
Actual Resources are those which have been surveyed, their quantity and quality determined and are being used in present times.
For example :-
1 The petroleum and the natural gas which is obtained from the Mumbai High Fields and West Asia
2 The rich deposits of coal in Ruhr region of Germany
3 Dark soils of the Deccan plateau in Maharashtra
Potential Resources:
Potential Resources – Potential resources are resources which exist in a region and which can be used in the future.
For example:-
1. Mineral oil may exist in many parts of India where sedimentary rocks are found but till it is actually drilled out and put into use, it remains a potential resource.
2. The uranium found in Ladakh is potential resource that could be used in the future.
3. High speed winds were a potential resource two hundred years ago. Today they are an actual resource and wind farms generate energy using windmills like in Netherlands, Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu and on the Gujarat coast.
Ans 4) There are several types of resource depletion, the most known being: Aquifer depletion, deforestation, mining for fossil fuels and minerals, pollution or contamination of resources, slash-and-burn agricultural practices, Soil erosion, and overconsumption, excessive or unnecessary use of resources.
Ans 5) Steps taken for conservation of energy resources include:
i. Switch off electrical appliances when not required.
ii. Use energy-efficient electrical appliances such as CFL.
iii. Use stairs to climb at least up to 3-4 floors of a building instead of using a lift.
iv. Use pressure cookers or solar cookers for cooking food.
v. Use of biogas as domestic fuel should be encouraged.
