  • Punjab is basically agriculture-based because of the presence of abundant fertile soils, land and water sources. Punjab is known as the "Granary of India"/bread basket of India
  • However, energy & minerals  resources also contribute to Punjab's economy to a much lesser extent. Punjab has mineral potential in areas comprising salt, coal, limestone, iron ore,  fire clay, and  gypsum, and so on.
  • Punjab has vast potential of solar energy, biomass energy and hydro energy.
  • However, the forest cover in Punjab is presently the lowest in the nation which is 3.14 percent of the total area.

While rains in the month of May so far have been surplus in the agrarian states of Punjab and Haryana, the precipitation has been significantly deficient in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh.
