Yes, respiration is an energy releasing process, or a catabolic reaction where glucose is broken down to yield energy in the form of ATP. ATP is a cellular energy carrier which is formed by adding a phosphate molecule to adenosine diphosphate, via the creation of a high energy bond. One molecule of glucose yields approximately 38 ATP molecules.
