★In annelids (e.g., earthworms and leeches) and amphibians (e.g., Frog), exchange of gases occurs through skin which is thin, moist vascular and permeable. It is called Cutaneous Respiration.
★In earthworm, the skin which is thin, moist vascular and Permeable, the skin is kept moist by mucus secreted by glandular cells of epidermis, coelomic fluid and moisture of soil.
★Exchange of gases between oxygen dissolved in the liquid layer over the skin and Carbon Dioxide of blood in capillaries occurs on the principle of diffusion. Oxygen is transported by the blood to the body cells where it is used in oxidation of glucose to produce energy.
