Dear Student,
◆ Answers with explanation -
(a)
- Earthworms breathe through their moist skin by the process of diffusion. Only limited amount of air can be inspired by this process which is sufficient for earthworm.
- On the other hand, respiratory system of cockroach is formed of spiracles and tracheal interconnections. This allows them to inspire large amount of air. Hence, respiratory system of cockroaches is more efficient than cockroaches.
(b)
- In cockroach, inspired air comes directly in contact with body organs due to tracheal interconnections. As no muscles, are involved in this process it is called passive process.
- On the other hand in humans, inspiration is facilitated by diaphram and other muscles of inspiration. Hence, this called active process.
