It resulted in the fall of the Sikh Empire, and the annexation of the Punjab and what subsequently became the North-West Frontier Province, by the East India Company

Annexation of Punjab by British:

• On 21 February 1849, the East India Company authoritatively defeated the Sikh Empire at the Encounter of Gujrat bringing to an end the 2nd Anglo-Sikh War.

• Following the victory, the East India Company annexed the Punjab on 2 April 1849 and combined it within British India.

• The Punjab fell into the British hands and was captured into the British Empire in India.
