The Retreating monsoon starts after the withdrawal of south west monsoon which begins  from mid September – November  and last till early January. When monsoon retreats the clouds disappear and paves way for clearer sky resulting in rise in day temperature .As the retreating monsoon blows from the northeast across the Bay of Bengal, it loads itself with a significant amount of moisture, which is eventually released after moving back onto the peninsula. That is why Coromandel coast receives heavy rainfall during this season.
