Speed and Distance

A path  S is divided into three paths.

The first path is of half of the distance of whole path and covered with a speed of 5m/s.

The other half is divided into further two parts and covered with the speed of 4 m/s \ and \ 6m/s.

Let the time taken in covering first part be t₁.

The time taken in covering second and part is equal and be t₂ and t₃ respectively.

According to question,

t_1=\frac{(\frac{s}{2}) }{5} =\frac{S}{10}

and,

\frac{S}{2}=4\times t_2+6\times t_3\\\\\implies \frac{S}{2}=10t_2(since t₂= t₃)

\implies {S} =20t_2

Total time taken will be, t_1+t_2+t_3 =\frac{S}{10}+ \frac{S}{20} +\frac{S}{20}= \frac{S}{5}

Average speed of the object during the motion is

\frac{S}{t}=\frac{S}{\frac{S}{5} }=5 \ m/s

Hence, average speed is 5 m/s.
