Review of the novel Jane Eyre

I first read this book at thirteen and have since reread it perhaps 3 times. Im now only 17, and still the way the literature has been crafted to portray the turmoil of an indignant and fiery young woman, is not lost on me.

I loved the book and read it in a day and a half. The story was so interesting and not at all predictable. If you like words and history, ! suggest reading the Kindle version of this book as you will otherwise be looking up a lot of words or else glossing over many that you don’t know the meaning of, which would be a waste. The e book will allow highlighting and instant access to the words’ meaning. While Jane was subjected to mistreatment at the hands of her cousins, aunt and at Lowood, she always had fire in her belly and heart. She was most definitely independent, contrary to what several reviewers have stated. There wouldn’t have been much of a story otherwise! The descriptions of the people, their emotions, the situations and the environment are so beautiful, insightful and detailed that this aspect alone makes the book fascinating to read. It’s not easy to read, from the perspective of the present day, as the language has changed so much over the last century and a half. What a learning experience it was! It’s interesting to note how many words at that time were taken directly from French and are no longer in use. The love story was so beautifully and discreetly developed with the reader left almost holding their breath, waiting! I loved how CB periodically addressed the reader directly -authorial intrusion it’s called so I just discovered. I could go on....just read it!
