1 Artists use different intensities of color and hues in their artwork all the time. We see lots of different intensities of color or hues in life every day! Can you think of some examples from your life where you see different intensities of color? You might think of some things found in nature (the sky, trees, etc.), something from your house, some kind of foods, or something else entirely! Please give three different examples and describe the color intensities of each.
2 In the art world, the word ‘value’ means how light or dark a color or hue is. But value, when used outside of the art world, has different meaning(s). Can you think of one other example of a different meaning for ‘value’? Use the word in a sentence that shows the different meaning.
3 We learned that some examples of geometric shapes are triangles, squares, rectangles, ovals, etc. Look around the room that you are in right now. List as many items as you can that look like a geometric shape or have a geometric shape on them.
4 Be sure to name the object, its shape, and whether that shape is 2D (flat) or 3D.
Imagine that you are trying to create a piece of art that that will show the feeling of anger. What type of colors, shapes, textures, lines, and values would you use? Explain which kinds of elements of design you would use to show anger.
5 Find a window near you and stand in front of it. Look out the window. What do you see? You can also imagine the view from a window at your home. What elements or principles of design would you need to use if you were going to paint or draw what you see through the window?
