Two men were walking along a lonely road.
One was laden with corn and the other with
gold. The one that carried gold was very
proud of his burden. Since gold was heavy
it was difficult for him even to walk. Still he
did not want that his burden should lightened. They had hardly travelled a little
distance when some robbers fell upon
them. They let the man that carried the corn
go free. But they caught hold of the other
man who was carrying gold. The man
struggled so hard to save his gold that the
robbers got angry and stabbed him. Then
they seized the gold and went away,
leaving him to die.
Before he died, the man said to himself, "I now realize how mistaken I was. If I also had been
carrying something ordinary, I would not have met this tragic fate".
