The blue umbrella brings various adventures in Binya's life and teaches her the ultimate lessons of kindness, sacrifice and letting go. The book is short and it can easily be read in half an hour. Ruskin Bond has weaved magic with his words in this simple, sweet story. The story is simple and so are the characters

Though the direct audience of this novel are children but grown-ups and old ones too like this novel because of the writing style and the message it conveys. I personally felt that the main theme of the story is to keep others happy by doling out the things that you love most.

Ruskin Bond concludes, " But an umbrella isn't everything." Binya sacrifices her umbrella for the happiness of Ram Bharosa. And this, in turn, makes him a more pleasant and friendly person. Ah! A simple act of kindness can indeed transform lives.
