I thought that it was time we took a stand on the issue of environmental pollution in our village. The threat of irreparable damage had been there for a while. The factories were pouring their pollutants into the local river. The water was being used for bathing, drinking and other domestic purposes. There had been a massive fall in the availability of clean drinking water. Some pro-environmental campaigns had been spreading greater awareness in the village but much remained to be done.
