The largest possible number of fruits in each tray is 4.

Given:

Rhianne has 44 apples and Gabrielle has 36 oranges. They have to divide up the fruits into small trays with equal number of fruits; each tray containing either apples or oranges only.

To find:

If there is no remainder, find the largest possible number of fruits in each tray.

Solution:

To find the largest possible number or fruits in each tray with no reminder left, we have to find out the H.C.F of 44 and 36.

HCF will be our answer because it will be the highest factor of both numbers and we have to find this highest number so that all trays have equal fruits.

Factors of 44 and 36:-

44 = 2*2*11

36 = 2*2*3*3

Common factors are 2 and 2

multiplying common factors

H.C.F. = 2*2 = 4

So, each tray will have 4 fruits in it and it can be either orange or apple only.
