General character-

1. Habitat- marine water at the depth of ocean.

2. Cell wall- cellulose, pectose, sulphated polyesters(agar,carrageen)

3. Photosynthetic pigment- chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-d, phycobilins(phycoerythrine are responsible for red color)

4. Storage products-floridean starch

5. Reproduction- asexual: non motile spores

Sexual: oogamous

Vegetative: fragmentation

Rhodophyceae - These algae has chlorophyll a and d and phycoerythrin are present. It imparts red colour. And are also called ‘red algae’.
