ribosome formed by combination of the subunits is also referred to as a monomer. Although ribosomes from both prokaryotic and eukaryotic sources are about 30 to 45% protein (by weight), with the remainder being ribonucleic acid, the specific protein and RNA components of these two major classes of ribosomes differ carbohydrate and lipid are virtually absent.

Ribosomes are numerous small granules which are scattered in the cytoplasm of a cell. It is also found attached to the lining of the endoplasmic reticulum. These are very small in size. They are single walled dense spherical bodies. They are composed of RNA.
They are protein synthesis.
