The poem criticize the modern problem in Kerala state of India. the farmers stopped rice cultivation and turned to cash crops .cash crops bought farmers more profit and more over it was more convenient than rice cultivation. the satire is seen in the last line of the poem "can we get some ...to make toys with it". the poet spend four year in north India researching on how to make toys with husk. he got doctoral degree in it .as Kerala is rice producing state there will be no shortage of husk. with his doctoral degree he could help his state find employment . now when he returned to Kerala he found that there were no rice cultivation .the farmers has shifted to cash crops . so there will be no husk to make toys. so his doctoral degree has no use to the state.
