A rich man needs nothing. A rich man has everything, and does not need anything else, therefore he needs nothing.

A poor man has nothing, even though this is not factually correct. Poor people do have something, be it a house, clothes, or food. Just because you are poor does not mean that you have no material possessions. Even a homeless man owns clothes.

Lastly, if you eat absolutely nothing, you die. As long as you have a copious amount of water, the maximum time doctors say you can go without food is 8 weeks. After that, you starve, and die.
