Right hand thumb rule is used to determine the direction of magnetic field.

***Maxwell's RIGHT HAND THUMB RULE Or MAXWELL'S corkscrew rule is used when the direction of current is known to find the direction of magnetic field produced by straight current carrying wire

***imagine u are grasping or holding the current carrying wire in your right hand so that your thumb points in the direction of current then the direction in which fingers encircle ,that direction will be of magnetic lines around the wire

****if the direction of current is vertically upwards then the direction of magnetic field will be anticlockwise

--------> where as when the current flowing through the wire will be vertically downwards the magnetic field will be clockwise
