  • Under this act, all those who are able to and are in need of work are guaranteed 100 days of employment in a year by the government.
  • In case the government fails in its duty of providing employment, it will have to give unemployment allowances to the people.
  • The types of work which in future will help to increase the productivity from land will be given preference under this act.

MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL RURAL EMPLOYMENT ACT, 2005

1. It aims at providing 100 days of waged livelihood to every household.

2. It also aims at sustainable development and addressing the causes of natural disasters like floods, droughts, landslides etc.

3. One third of the total jobs are reserved for women.

4. The share of scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and women are 23%, 17% and 54% respectively.

5. The average wage has increased from Rs 65 in 2005-06 to Rs 133 in 2014-15.
