f the displacement of a moving object in a given interval of time is zero then the distance travelled by the object is not necessarily zero.

Distance is the total length of path covered by body. Displacement is the length of the shortest path between the initial and final point. It depends on magnitude and direction.

If body returns to the initial point after travelling some path, initial and final points of the path is same, then displacement will be zero but distance covered will be non zero.
