The right to privacy is an element of various legal traditions to restrain government and private actions that threaten the privacy of individuals.[1][2] Over 150 national constitutions mention the right to privacy.[3]

Since the global surveillance disclosures of 2013, the inalienable human right to privacy has been a subject of international debate. In combating worldwide terrorism, government agencies, such as the NSA, CIA, R&AW, and GCHQ have engaged in mass, global surveillance, perhaps undermining the right to privacy.

There is now a question as to whether the right to privacy can co-exist with the current capabilities of intelligence agencies to access and analyse virtually every detail of an individual's life. A major question is whether or not the right to privacy needs to be forfeited as part of the social contract to bolster defense against supposed terrorist threats.

I feel that right to privacy is a fundamental right. We can't be telling anything & everything to this society.

NEW DELHI -- A nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court unanimously decided on Thursday that right to privacy is a fundamental right.

The Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar ruled that "right to privacy is an intrinsic part of Right to Life and Personal Liberty under Article 21 and entire Part III of the Constitution".

The nine judges unanimously overruled the two earlier judgements of the apex court--the M P Sharma verdict of 1950 and that of Kharak Singh of 1960--that right to privacy is not protected under the Constitution.

Besides CJI Khehar, the bench comprised of justices Jasti Chelameswar, SA Bobde, RK Agarwal, Rohinton Nariman, AM Sapre, DY Chandrachud, SK Kaul and S Abdul Nazeer. Before pronouncing the judgement, the CJI said that among the nine judges some of them have authored different orders, reported PTI.

Hence, It's a fundamental right.

We are born to live for ourselves first. Then comes other people in our life. There's no need to bother about the society comments on us. I say this because this society itself is imperfect.  Be confidential of your privacy.

Right to privacy is a necessity & hence it's already declared a fundamental right.
