Given :- Riley reached into his pocket and pulled out a total of 27 coins, consisting of quarters and dimes. If the total value of the coins is $5.55, how many quarters does he have ?

Solution :-

Let the number of quarters that Anna has is x .

Since there are 27 coins total, the number of dimes is (27 - x) .

  • Each dime is worth 10 cents ($0.10) and each quarter is worth 25 cents ($0.25) .

then,

→ 0.25 * x + (27 - x) * 0.10 = 5.55

→ 0.25x + 2.7 - 0.1x = 5.55

→ 0.15x = 5.55 - 2.7

→ 0.15x = 2.85

→ x = 19 .

Therefore, Riley has 19 quarters in total .
