SOLUTION

GIVEN

Rima thinks of a number. If she takes away 7 from 5/2 of the number, the result is 23

TO DETERMINE

The number

EVALUATION

Let the required number = 2N

Now 5/2 of the number

= 5/2 × 2N

= 5N

So by the given condition

5N - 7 = 23

⇒ 5N = 30

⇒ N = 6

Thus we have 2N = 2 × 6 = 12

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the required number = 12
