This allows air to pass in and out of the lungs. As the trachea is made of cartilaginous rings which are of C shape, it prevents the air passage not to collapse when we breathe out air. Due to the presence of rings of catilage, the air passage do not collapse when we breath out .

Trachea or the wind pipe have rings of Cartilage which insure that the air passage does not collaspe due to air pressure.
