Let the cost of 1 apple be a and cost of one plum be p, then it is given

4a+2p=1.96 equation 1

7a+3p=3.24 equation 2

multiply eq 1 by 3 and equation 2 by 2 and then subtract eq 1 from eq 2, you will get

14a -12a=2×3.24-3×1.96

2a =6.48-5.88=0.60

a=0.30

put this value of a in any of the above equations, you will get

p=0.38
