The rise and fall of water caused by friction of wind on water, is commonly known as a ‘wave’. They are also known as wind waves, surface waves etc. and are found on seas, lakes, ponds etc.

It is caused by wind blowing over the water surface. The friction between the wind and the surface of water causes the water to wrinkle. It is caused by unaligned forces pushing a body in two opposing directions.
