Rishi set up the experiment to demonstrate that CO2 is given out during respiration. after completion of experiment teacher asked him to answer the following questions:
(a) Why is some KOH solution placed in the flask?
(b) Why are germinated seeds kept in the flask?​

Explanation:

An Experiment used to demonstrate Respiration needs Carbon dioxide:

In a conical flask KOH and Germinated seeds and a U shaped apparatus is sealed with one of the beaker's mouth and another with cork. The initial water level is marked.

In the flask Germinated seeds acts as a CO2 producer and KOH acts as a CO2 consumer and hence a vacuum is created which leads to the rise in the water level in U shaped apparatus. And this proves that respiration needs CO2.
