Firstly in any country several services such as hospitals, educational institutions, post and telegraph services, police stations, courts .etc. are required. These can be considered as basic services. The government takes responsibility for provision of these services.

Secondly, the development of agriculture industry leads to the development of services such as transport , trade, storage and the like as we have ready seen.

Thirdly, as income levels rise , certain sections of people start demanding many more services like hotels, tourism, shopping, private hospitals.etc.

Fourthly, over the past decade or so certain new services such as those based on information and communication technology have become more important and essential.

Tertiary sector in GDP is rising very fast.

Hope this helps!!
