Rita bought a 1 metre satin ribbon. She divided the ribbon in the ratio 5 : 3 to wrap a bat and a box of chocolates. What is the length of the ribbon used to wrap the box of chocolates?​

Answer:

Ribbon was = 100 cm (1m)

Let the ratio 5:3 be 5x and 3x respectively .

Equation forming => 5x + 3x = 100

=> 8x = 100

=> 12.5

5x = 5×12.5=62.5cm=0.625m

3x = 3×12.5=37.5cm=0.375m

Ans : The length of the ribbon used to wrap the box of chocolates is 0.375m

Proof - add the measurements 0.625m and 0.375m , you will get 1m . And the length of the ribbon was 1m .
