rita went to a science fair and saw a project in which three lemons were used to light a bulb .each lemon had zinc and copper strips pierced into it and were connected to each other through a wire. a bulb fixed to the circuit was glowing.why was the bulb glowing?

It is because oxidation, reduction & reaction. It is the lemon act as a electrolyte & zinc,copper act as a electrodes.

In this experiment, lemon juice is acidic and act as electrolyte. Zinc and copper strips are metals which act as electrodes. Since zinc has more tendency to loose electrons as compared to copper so zinc is the negative electrode (anode) and copper is the positive electrode (cathode). When a battery is connected with a bulb, the circuit becomes closed. Electrons flow from zinc electrode to copper electrode and bulb lights up.
