Given :- Ritesh rounded a number to the nearest 10 and Malek rounded the same number to the nearest 100 but both got the same answer. Which of the following could be the number?

A - 75

B - 92

C - 96

D - 107

Solution :-

we know that, :-

  • When rounding to the nearest hundred, look at the tens digit of the number.
  • If that digit is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, you will round down to the previous hundred. { The hundreds digit does not change.}
  • If that digit is 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, you will round up to the next hundred. { The hundreds digit increases by one.}
  • All rest digits changes into 0.
  • While rounding to nearest 10 , we have check for unit digit .

checking all options we get,

A) 75

→ Rounding off to nearest 10 = unit digit 5 => 80

→ Rounding off to nearest 100 = ten's digit 7 => 100

B) 92

→ Rounding off to nearest 10 = unit digit 2 => 90

→ Rounding off to nearest 100 = ten's digit 9 => 100

C) 96

→ Rounding off to nearest 10 = unit digit 6 => 100

→ Rounding off to nearest 100 = ten's digit 9 => 100

D) 107

→ Rounding off to nearest 10 = unit digit 7 => 110

→ Rounding off to nearest 100 = ten's digit 0 => 100

therefore, from given options (C) 96 is required number .
