Ritesh went to a shopping mall to buy a trouser costing Rs. 3500 . On his request , shopkeeper allowed two successive discounts of x% and y% (x > y) . if Ritesh paid Rs. 2618 including sales tax 10%. then discount rates given by shopkeeper are ___ and ___ respectively ? (Nice Question ).

|| ✰✰ ANSWER ✰✰ ||

let the reduced price of the dress be Rs.x

→ sales tax on rs.x=(x×10/100)=x/10

So,

→ amount paid by Ritesh = (x+x/10)=11/10x

A.T.Q

→ (11/10x) = 2618

→ x = (10/11) × 2618 = 2380

so, The reduced price After Two Discount is = Rs.2380 ..

______________________

Now, it is given that, cost of trouser was 3500 and shopkeeper allowed two successive discounts of x% and y% ..

So,

3500 * [ (100 - x)/100 ] * [ (100-y)/100 ] = 2380

→ 35(100-x)(100-y) = 238000

Dividing both sides by 35, we get,

(100-x)(100-y) = 6800

Now, If we have Options we can solve it Easily, but Since option are not their , we can use Hit and Trial now, or , Lets make Factors of 6800 .

(100-x)(100-y) = (16 * 5 )* (17 * 5 )

→ (100-x)(100-y) = 80 * 85 ( As x > y)

So,

100-x = 80

→ x = 20% .

And,

(100-y) = 85

→ y = 15% .

Hence, Discount rates given by shopkeeper are 20% and 15% respectively.

QUESTION :-

Ritesh went to a shopping mall to buy a trouser costing Rs. 3500 . On his request , shopkeeper allowed two successive discounts of x% and y% (x > y) . if Ritesh paid Rs. 2618 including sales tax 10%. then discount rates given by shopkeeper are ___ and ___ respectively ?

ANSWER :-

let the reduced price of the dress be Rs.100

→ sales tax on rs.100=(100×10/100) = 10

→ amount paid by Ritesh = 110

Given,

→ 110= 2618

→ 100 = (100/110) × 2618 = 2380

The reduced price After Two Discount is = Rs.2380 ..

Now given that cost of trouser was 3500 and shopkeeper allowed two successive discounts of x% and y% ..

using SP = MP*(100-D)/100 = SP

=> 3500 * [ (100 - x)/100 ] * [ (100-y)/100 ] = 2380

=> 35(100-x)(100-y) = 238000

=> (100-x)(100-y) = 6800

=> (100-x)(100-y) = (16 * 5 )* (17 * 5 )

=> (100-x)(100-y) = 80 * 85 ( As x > y)

putting now,

100-x = 80

x = 20% .

(100-y) = 85

y = 15% .

Hence, Discount rates given by shopkeeper are 20% and 15% respectively.
