Step-by-step explanation:

let speed of boat in still water be x km/hr

and speed of the current be y km/hr

for downstream

distance = 20 km

time = 2 hr

speed = x + y

we know

speed = distance÷time

  = > x + y =  \frac{20}{2}  \\  \\  =  > x + y = 10.............(1)

for upstream

distance = 4 km

time = 2 hrs

speed = x - y

 =  > x - y =  \frac{4}{2}  \\  \\  =  > x - y = 2............(2)

on solving eq.1 and eq. 2 we get

x + y = 10 \\ x - y = 2 \\ .................\\  =  > 2y = 8 \\  =  > y = 4 \\  \\ from \: eq(2) \\  =  > x = 2 + y \\  \\  =  > x = 2 + 4  \\ \\ =   > x = 6

therefore therefore speed of the boat in Stillwater is 6 km/hr and speed of the current is 4 km/hr
