Yes . Of course! Rivers are considered holy in India but i duno of other countries. For Hindus specially rivers are considered as holy because they think that their sins would be washed away if they sink in it. It means they are brought out of fear for their death. That's why when persons die, they do some rituals near rivers. In India Ganges has been considered as the most holy river.
